The Person I Long To Be

The day light breaks again
Another day has begun.

But still no sleep has come.
My body is wearyMy mind overworked.

I lie awake thinking But what I am unsure.
I need to break free from the cycle I endure.

Everyday is the same and the nights are undistinguished.
I feel as though I am being pushed along with the tide unable to break free from the everyday flow.

This is not me I need to change, before time takes over and I am unable to change.
I need to be freed from the grasp of ordinary and become that person I have always longed for.

Express myself in every way, and conquer the dreams as I lie awake.
Then I may fall asleep and put my mind to rest.

Make changes in my life and help those in need.
I would like to touch everyone's life in a positive way and leave my mark on society before I fade away.

Chicano Thinking Ahead

A Chicano named Rodriquez went to his doctor to determine the source of his sickness. The doctor, after a lengthy examination, sighed and looked Rodriquez in the eye and said," I've got some bad news for you. You have cancer, and it's very bad. You'd best put your affairs in order." Rodriquez was shocked and saddened. But, being of solid character, he managed to compose himself and walk from the doctor's office into the waiting room. To his son who had been waiting, Rodriquez said, "Well son, we Chicanos celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't so well. I have cancer. Let's head for the bar and have a few beers." After 3 or 4 beers, the two were feeling a little less sober. There were some laughs and more beers. They were eventually approached by some of Rodriquez's old friends who asked what the two were celebrating. Rodriquez told them that Chicanos celebrate the good and the bad. Hewent on to tell them that they were drinking to his impending end. He told his friends, "I have been diagnosed with AIDS." His son's eyebrows raised and he opened his mouth, but Rodriquez raised his finger and the frown on his face stifled what his son had planned to say. The friends gave Rodriquez their condolences, and they had a couple more beers. After his friends left, Rodriquez's son leaned over and whispered his confusion. "Dad, I thought you said that you were dying from cancer? You just told your friends that you were dying from AIDS!" Rodriquez said, "I don't want any of them sleeping with your mother after I m gone." ORALE!!!!..... Just a Chicano thinking ahead.

The Essence of Chicano-ism

We are a proud breed
Determine to do and not to heed
We were born during a time of policital activism
In the middle of racism
We have matured to gray haired, bronzed by the sun
The weapons we used were not guns
They were actions of pure motivational movement
Today we reflect upon things that were and things that could have been
Yet we will continue to be seen
As Chicanos, political activist that moved a people

Future is Now

Have you ever wonder how man can live in the past, think in the present and react in the future?
